Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC)
The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) is available to anyone 12 years of age & up (some exceptions may apply) & deals with common rifles & shotguns.
It consists of two parts, one is hands on classroom instruction, the other is learning the student handbook material.
This is an introductory firearm safety course intended for all new firearms users. The course is designed to assist you in developing the knowledge and skills to interact with Non Restricted firearms in a responsible manner.
By completing this course, you will learn how to achieve the following goals:
- Handle Non Restricted firearms and ammunition safely, legally, & responsibly.
- Use Non Restricted firearms and ammunition safely, legally, & responsibly.
- Comply with Non Restricted firearms laws, including prescribed “antique” firearms.
- Store Non Restricted firearms and ammunition safely, legally, & responsibly.
- Display Non Restricted firearms and ammunition safely, legally, & responsibly.
- Transport Non Restricted firearms and ammunition safely, legally, & responsibly.
There will be both written and practical examinations. Passing them will demonstrate the knowledge and skills you gained from the course. Students must pass successfully the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) examination to apply for a Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) or Minor’s License in order to acquire/possess rifles and shotguns commonly used for target shooting, hunting, & collecting purposes.
It takes 2-3 months to get a PAL or Minors’ License. Be prepared & plan ahead!
Important Course Information
- Students must provide 1 piece of valid photo ID issued by a government agency e.g. drivers license, passport, employee ID card, etc. (MUST BE PHOTO ID)
- For safety reasons, NO student is permitted to bring any firearm or ammunition to the classroom. Disabled firearms and dummy (inert) ammunition are provided by the instructor.
- Maximum class size is 12 students, with 10 being the normal size.
- Students MUST arrive on time (8AM) and full attendance is required.
Fees
2 day (10 hours plus, breaks, lunches, & test time) CFSC course fee: $200.00 (test included)
Combined CFSC/CRFSC Student Handbook, if required: $20.00
